Sleep apnea
Sleep apnea is a condition where there is a sudden cessation of breathing during sleep, usually due to an obstruction or blockage of the upper airway. Loud snoring may be a definite sign of this disorder. The sleep partner may notice pauses in breathing, but the affected individual may be totally unaware of the problem. Excessive daytime sleepiness may result from interruption of normal sleep during the night. If you suffer from sleep apnea, your partner may have encouraged you to seek help.

Insomnia may be caused by chronic tension, sleep habit problems, drugs or sleep apnea. Many people experience insomnia at some time in their life. If the condition continues, it should be evaluated by your physician.
Restless legs or unusual muscle movements
This is a condition where individuals move their legs or arms rhythmically while they sleep, leading to frequent brief awakenings and disruption of the quality of sleep. Persons with this disorder may be unaware of these movements.
