  • Waiting Room Ambassador

  • Position summary:
    (weekday mornings)
    Volunteers enhance the well-being and comfort of patients, families, and visitors; assist the staff with time consuming tasks. Volunteers enjoy the satisfaction of service to the community. The Waiting Room Ambassador offers assistance to visitors and patients and support services for the hospital staff.

    Duties/ Responsibilities:
    Greet all who enter; impart information: room numbers or directions to locations within the hospital, information about meetings or location of departments; escort visitors to their destinations, deliver mail, flowers or packages; maintain order of magazines in waiting areas; perform light office duties (fold letters, make phone calls, etc) as directed by staff. Dress neatly -no jeans; display hospital ID badge at all times; communicate effectively; collaborate with staff, volunteers and visitors.

    Waiting Room Ambassadors maintain confidentiality at all times; adhere to hospital safety and infection control procedures but have no direct patient care.

  • Title: Office Assistant Volunteer

  • Position summary:
    (weekdays as arranged)
    Volunteers in the hospital enhance the well being and comfort of patients, families and visitors; assist with time-consuming tasks. The Office Assistant volunteer assists with general filing, letter signing, assembly, copying or other office procedures.

    Duties/ Responsibilities:
    Good organizational skills; communicates effectively.
    Maintains confidentiality; must dress neatly – NO jeans; display hospital ID badge at all times.

    These volunteers maintain confidentiality at all times; adhere to hospital safety and infection control procedures and do not provide direct patient care.

  • Title: Floor Ambassador

  • Position summary:
    (weekday mornings)
    Volunteers enhance the well-being and comfort of patients and families. The Floor Ambassador collaborates with nursing staff to offer support services related to in-patient care.

    Duties/Responsibilities:
    Hospitality cart host/ess: coffee, tea, newspapers, books; greet patients; assist with phone, TV, writing or other tasks related to patient comforts; display hospital ID badge at all times; communicate effectively; dress neatly – no jeans; collaborate with hospital staff.

  • Title: Sunset Corner Gift Shop Team Member

  • Position summary:
    Volunteers enhance the well-being and comfort of patients, families, and visitors. Team members offer service to general public as well as visitors, patients, and employees to purchase gifts, personal care and food items. Volunteers assist consumers with purchases and attend to the over-all orderliness of the shop.

    Duties/Responsibilities:
    The Sunset Corner Gift Shop Team Members greet customers; assist customers selecting purchases; must know how to make change, operate a cash register and record purchases; dress professionally (clean, coordinated with , no jeans – smocks provided if preferred); display hospital ID badge at all times, communicate with all who enter.

    Sunset Corner Gift Shop volunteers maintain confidentiality at all times; adhere to hospital safety and infection control procedures and do not provide direct patient care.

    Youth Volunteer Services

    Being a Youth Volunteer offers an opportunity to learn about many aspects of a health care facility and encourages an interest in pursuing a health care career. Youth Volunteers run in-house errands, make copies, file, sort, staple materials, do labeling, deliver supplies as well as other tasks assigned by the department manager.

    The Youth Volunteer program operates June through August. Suggested age of Youth Volunteers is 12 years or older. Only those 14 years or older may work under the guidance of medical or surgical staff. Regular volunteers hours are any time between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm. with additional evening shifts until 8:00 pm in medical/surgery. Youth Volunteers may not work more than seven hours per day.

    Auxiliary
    The Hospital Auxiliary was organized at St. Andrew's Hospital in April, 1956. It thrives under the leadership of board members who meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Today, St. Joseph Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has 250 members. Annual dues of $5.00 are payable in March. Members keep abreast of organization activities via a quarterly newsletter. Meetings held on the 3rd Tuesday of March, June, September and December provide educational and/or entertaining programs, refreshments and a time for member networking.

    Auxiliary members in a variety of projects and activities, such as working in the Sunset Corner Gift Shop, Bear Brigade and various fundraisers.
