Step 1: Determine if you are at risk
- Thin or small-framed
- Positive family history
- Chronic intestinal disorders
- Have low calcium intake
- Lead a sedentary lifestyle
- Smoke or drink in excess
- Light skinned
Step 2: Prevent osteoporosis - Adults up to the age of 51
- Consume at least 2 servings of calcium-rich foods a day to reach a total intake of 1000 mg/day
- Get adequate Vitamin D
- Do weight-bearing activities, such as, jogging, walking, tennis, dancing, or golf
Step 3: If you are postmenopausal after age 50
