In case of an emergency, St. Joseph provides 24-hour, seven day-a-week coverage with emergency room physicians on site at all times. The staff is certified in all forms of life support for children and adults and is readily prepared for a variety of emergency medical conditions. Plus, St. Joseph is part of the SIH family, which includes Prairie Heart Institute--Carbondale and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago meaning quality heart and rehabilitative care is easily accessible. Should a patient require transportation to another facility, air and ambulance services are available.

Effective April 1, 2010:   Insurance co-payments or a minimum $100 fee for services rendered will be collected at time of discharge from the Emergency Department.

Physicians providing services at and admitting patients to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Herrin Hospital and St. Joseph Memorial Hospital are not employees of the hospitals. Physicians exercise their own independent judgment regarding medical care and treatment and the hospitals are not responsible for their actions.
