Sonographers and radiologists at Herrin Hospital recently scored impressive numbers to secure a prestigious three-year accreditation from the American College of Radiology.

The team garnered 880 out of a possible 897 total points for a final score of 98.1% with no recommended changes to the program.

The ACR Committee on Ultrasound Accreditation of the Commission on Quality and Safety accredited Herrin’s program for OB, Gynecological, General and Vascular Ultrasound Services, including Peripheral Vascular, Cerebrovascular, Abdominal Vascular and Deep Abdominal Vascular.

When you see the ACR seal, you know:

• Your hospital has voluntarily gone through a rigorous review process to be sure it meets nationally accepted standards.
• The personnel are well-qualified, through education and certification, to perform and interpret your medical images and administer your radiation therapy treatments.
• The equipment is appropriate for the test or treatment you will receive, and the facility meets or exceeds quality assurance and safety guidelines.

“When an organization is granted ultrasound accreditation, it is validation of the quality of the practice and of the dedication of the teams who work day-in and day-out to provide quality service to their patients,” said Southern Illinois Healthcare Ultrasound Coordinator Kim Enyart.

The American College of Radiology, headquartered in Reston, Virginia, awards accreditation to facilities for achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.
